What to Expect and FAQ


Is Acupuncture painful?

Everyone experiences it a little different.Most people find acupuncture to be painless. There are some points on the body that are more sensitive than others, such as the hands, feet and ears. The acupuncture needles vary in size and length, but the needles are very thin, almost like a strand of hair.

How long is one session?

First session includes a thorough consultation, run down of your health history, and a physical exam with a tongue and pulse diagnosis and takes 1 hour and 1/2, each session following includes a shorter consultation and only takes 1 hour.

How long do the needles remain inserted?

The needles are usually sustained for about 20 minutes.

Are there any side effects to acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a safe modality that works to activate your bodies own innate energy sources, there are few to no side effects. Some people can experience unique sensations and if you have overeaten, not eaten, or are not properly hydrated before a treatment sometimes this can cause you to feel a little light headed or queasy. Some light bruising can occur with certain areas of the body.

Are the needles ever reused?

Absolutely not. All needles used on any point of the body are new from a closed sterile package. Acupuncture needles are regulated by the FDA and considered a medical device.

Is acupuncture covered by insurance?

Some insurance carriers provide coverage for treatment. Check with your insurance before coming in and then we can give you a bill to submit to your insurance if you decide to bill them. We do not handle any insurance billing in our office.
